Blog Party: "You are never too old.."

Like most of you, I have always been "into something creative"...and like, probably all of you, I have tried many mediums, made a lot of mistakes, got rid of some and kept a few!

About a year ago, my computer took me (I swear I wasn't looking for them!...) to the Etsy Cottage Style group and the ZNE pages and... Boy Oh Boy, was I in for a treat! All those cute papers, intriguing shapes, vintage findings, glitter!!...I learned of Mixed Media, Fairies, Collages, Mermaids...I read about swaps and challenges and even entered some...and I did something that I never thought I could do: inspired by the very talented graphic artists in these groups, I learned the basics of Photoshop and created some digital art!

I did, yes I did, because...

...your computer!!

And I did it because my fellow artists supported me, encouraged me and never, never made me feel like my work wasn't good enough to share with them.

I have a long way to go. A college class might be in my near future, but in the meantime I keep playing with my computer, making mistakes, going crazy sometimes but most of all, I keep experimenting!

I don't know how long my "digital phase" will last and I have no idea of what's coming next, but I sure know that I will try it!!

Now I'm off to visit inspiring blogs, who knows, maybe by the end of the day I'm already in my "next phase". And you?...what are you playing with???
Add your name and URL address to the Mr. Linky below, to let us know you are participating in the Blog Party!

About inspiration or the lack of it...

Yes, I have to admit it...I've been in one of those blank states that I dislike so much...one of those when NOTHING comes o mind...One of those states that keep you away from the pretty papers, from the right words, from the oh so loved glitter!
Life got a little crazy, but not bad crazy, just busy crazy and now that is slowing down I'm looking for inspiration...I'm looking for that little image,

...that special color...

...texture...

...that special memory...

even sound!...noticed the new background music?...

That moment, usually sitting right in front of my face...most definitely looking right into my eyes, waiting to be discovered and grabbed!... That little jolt that will sparkle and put me in motion again...
No worries, just sitting here and writing this post is a great beginning, don't you think?...

Wishing you a fab weekend full of inspiration or the energy to search for it because...

The votes are in....

and they could not have been any closer!...but the winner of our "Frames Challenge" is....
(Drum Roll, Please)....

Gail from Shabby Cottage Studio!!!

clap, clap, clap!!!!

For those (very few) that don't know Gail, she is a Mixed Media Artist living in the beautiful mountains of Tennessee. She has two blogs:
Shabby Cottage Studio and her MUST VISIT: Mind Wide Open where she inspires and teaches mixed media artists to stretch their imagination and think outside the box. It's at her Mind Wide Open blog where she posts monthly challenges so if you are in the mood to be challenged, participate in a workshop or just admire some beautiful artwork, pay Gail a visit...

If you know Gail and her work, I know you are as excited as I am that she won, because after hosting so many challenges and giving so many goodies away, it was time for her to come out, play and take home some goodies of her own!

Congratulations to all of those artists who participated and specially to Gail!

In a personal note, I'd like to thank you for all your "Get well wishes" regarding my Son. I'm happy to say that he and his friends had a wonderful Prom and the Doctor has given him the OK to go back to school..Yeah!

Frozen Charlottes

Charlotte was going to the ball with her boyfriend Charles in an open carriage. Didn't listen to her Mom (some things never change...) and didn't take a shawl during a very, very cold German night....she died of cold that night while her boyfriend died of a broken heart....

That's the sad story behind Frozen Charlottes. Those small, white porcelain dolls that inspire artists everywhere...

From: "Every day is a Holiday"

The cute little dolls make beautiful angels or fairies, they come in many different sizes, and many times they are missing an arm or a leg which does not detract at all from their charm....

"Frozen Charlotte Reliquary" by Robin Dudley-Howes
From: "Robin's Nest"

"Frozen Charlotte under glass" Necklace by Robin Dudley-Howes

"Charlotte Bottle" by Lynda Zewinsky

As sad as the story is, I hope it has inspired you to create something beautiful this weekend....after all...

"You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club"
~Jack London~
1876–1916 American author who wrote The Call of the Wild, White Fang, and The Sea Wolf

Remember that you still have time to vote for your favorite artwork (previous post). Winner will be posted on Monday. Thank you so much to all of you that have taken the time to vote!.. I'm not posting your comments because I would like the winner to be surprised!

Time to vote!

First of all, I'd like to apologize for not posting on Monday, as I promised.... During the last few days I've learned that there is only one thing worse than a Not-Feeling-Well-Husband at home, and that is a Not-Feeling-Well-Teenager-Son at home...The poor guy came home from a weekend out of town with a bad sore throat and finally yesterday, at about 4:00 pm, the Dr. got the tests results back: Mono, no school until next week, take Tylenol, come back on Monday...Not a good time, Finals are next week (he is a HS senior), Prom is next Saturday and Mom has pictures to post, Doc!!!

Oh well, we will worry about all that later...now, let's enjoy our Frame Challenge Artwork Entries...and please, take a minute to leave a comment and vote for your favorite.

"Memories" Digital Framed Artwork by Patti Koosed from Treasure Barn

"Altered Frame" by Gail Schmidt from Shabby Cottage Studio

Vintage frame painted white and recreated into a caulk board with Vintage Jewelry as tacks by Rita from Tesorofino

Digital Postcards Artwork by Debbi from Marionberry Cottage

"Make a wish" Hanging Card by Casey Massey from Shining Woman

It's just great to see how each artist recreated the frame theme!
Please vote for your favorite!
You have time until next Wednesday, June 10th. I promise I will announce the winner on the 11th...by then we'll be over the mononucleosis, prom will be a fun memory and my son will be ready to tackle finals ...(one can only hope!)

Thank you so much to the wonderful Ladies that participated in our first challenge.
and now...vote, vote, vote!!!
